A DANCE JOURNEY TO INDIA —Section. 3 IDENTIFICATION

Updated: May 30

June 13, 2026—class description of Rajasthani and Bollywood dance, guided by coco Ayumi and Sushila Kalbeliya

You will find the musical details for both courses HERE.

Click here for registration. The registration is available for the full course or, as a drop-in option for individual classes.

Since the Rajasthani and Bollywood choreographies will already be completed by Section 3, participation in Sections 1 and 2 is strongly recommended.

For this reason, drop-in registration for Section 3 will only be available to students who have attended either Section 1 or Section 2.

Rajasthani (14:00–15:00)

IDENTIFICATION of the folkloric essence within the movements of Rajasthani dance. By paying attention to how folk dance is shaped by the lifestyle and cultural roots of its people, we gain a deeper understanding of the symbolic meanings behind the gestures. Cultural heritage can also be transmitted to dancers from different backgrounds when they learn to embody it with deeper curiosity, respect, and appreciation for the values carried within these traditional arts.

Ideally, the choreography will be completed during this class.

Bollywood (15:00–16:00)

IDENTIFICATION of the characters within ourselves through Bollywood dance. “Culture shock” does not have to be a feeling of disorientation; it can also become a moment of self-discovery that challenges and expands our awareness. This recognition becomes possible when we observe our emotions while experiencing new forms of expression from another culture with different customs and traditions.

Ideally, the choreography will be completed during this class.
