A DANCE JOURNEY TO INDIA — Section. 2 INTRODUCTION
Updated: May 30
June 6, 2026 — class description of Rajasthani and Bollywood dance, guided by coco Ayumi
You will find the musical details for both courses HERE.
Registration is available for the full course or as a drop-in option for individual classes.
Since the Rajasthani and Bollywood choreographies will already be completed by Section 3, participation in Sections 1 and 2 is strongly recommended. For this reason, drop-in registration for Section 3 will only be available to students who have attended either Section 1 or Section 2.
Rajasthani (14:00–15:00)
INTRODUCTION to combining Rajasthani footwork with the grooves of upper-body movement. Building on the rhythmic choreography from Section 1, Coco Ayumi will guide you to a deeper understanding of how to coordinate the full body while maintaining strong rhythmic grounding in the feet. Learning how to place upper-body and hand movements precisely within the rhythm will make your Rajasthani dance more natural, enjoyable, and expressive.
DHOAD musicians and Sushila Kalbeliya are absent due to their concert.
Bollywood (15:00–16:00)
INTRODUCTION to emotional expression through facial engagement and activation of facial muscles. With 20 years of experience, Coco Ayumi guides students to discover their own expressive identity in dance, particularly the connection between inner emotional experience and outer physical expression. We will review the choreography from Section 1 and continue developing new material by exploring how the body can clearly communicate narrative so that the audience can understand the story through full-body expression.
